Neck lift is a surgery to rejuvenate the face by correcting sagging and wrinkles in the skin of the face and neck. The aim of neck lift surgeries is to hang the tissues in the sagging and loosened skin in the neck to their original places and to tighten the skin by removing excess sagging skin. Stitches are removed on the 5th-7th day and then you can return to work.
Aging causes loosening and cracking of the skin on the neck as in other parts of the body. The muscle tissue, which is a very thin layer under the skin, may also sag and transverse and longitudinal folds may occur in the neck. While the angle between the chin and neck is more prominent and steep, it widens over the years. If there is fat accumulation under the chin, the angle widens even more and the appearance we call the jowl is formed. There is no condition that the chin will necessarily form in old age. In some people, it can also occur structurally in youth. In some people, the jowl is not seen despite their advanced age.
Since the neck is a structure that supports the foundation of the face, it should be evaluated as a whole with the face. If there is sagging or wrinkles on the neck, intervention together will give better and more striking results. In young patients with a neck, only neck intervention may be beneficial. In order to steepen the angle between the chin and neck, liposuction should be performed if there is fat accumulation, and fat tissue should be removed with a few cm incision made on the neck. When the incision is made, the relaxation in the muscles can also be corrected by intervening to tighten the muscles.
Neck lift can be performed under local or general anesthesia. If neck and face lift are performed together, no additional incision is required. The surgery is started with an incision starting from the front of the ear, curving behind the ear just below it and extending into the scalp. The muscle tissue is tightened and excess skin is cut from the tightened skin. In the reshaped neck, if necessary, the neck is also intervened in the same place.
You can go home on the day of surgery. There is a temporary loss of sensation in the operation area. Pain is not felt much. The loss of sensation will gradually recover after a few weeks. The swelling and bruising after the operation will disappear after a few days. Special bandages and cold applications should be applied to reduce these complaints. You can take a shower after two days. It takes 3 weeks for swelling and bruising to disappear completely. Stitches are removed on days 5-7 and then you can return to work.
AFTER NECK LIFT SURGERY:
After the surgery, edema and bruises disappear to a great extent in 7-10 days. After the stitches are removed, the patient can apply make-up and return to daily life. It is important that patients do not smoke for at least 3 weeks before and after surgery. Sun protection and sunscreen creams are also recommended for a few weeks after surgery.
