In Brief

  • Energy is transferred through a small arc created by ionizing the air.
  • Treatment is precise and controlled, without touching the skin.

What Is Plasma?

Plasma is the fourth state of matter, formed by the ionization of gases. Medical plasma devices deliver brief bursts of energy to the target point through a tiny arc created at their tip. The surface tissue is vaporized in a controlled way while collagen production is stimulated in the deeper layers.

Areas of Use

  • Upper and lower eyelid laxity
  • Fine wrinkles around the eyes and lips
  • Skin tags, warts and superficial benign lesions
  • Yellow fatty deposits on the eyelids (xanthelasma)
  • Some acne and other scars

How It Differs from Laser

While laser uses light energy, plasma uses arc energy created by ionizing the air. Limited heat spread to the surrounding tissue is an advantage in thin, delicate areas such as the eyelids.

Step by Step

1

Assessment

The treatment area and any lesions are examined by the physician.

2

Preparation

A numbing cream is applied.

3

Application

Energy is delivered point by point.

4

Recovery

The crusts fall off in 5–7 days; the area is protected from the sun.

A Surgeon’s View

Treatments performed by a physician with medically approved devices are far safer and more controlled than home-use or unapproved plasma pens.

Frequently Asked Questions

After numbing cream, mild warmth and prickling are felt.

A single session is often enough for lesions; 1–3 sessions are enough for tightening.

The risk is low when aftercare instructions are followed.

Months with weaker sun are preferred.
