Proportion Is Everything

In generally accepted proportions, the lower lip is somewhat fuller than the upper lip. In profile, the lips should not extend beyond an imaginary line between the tip of the nose and the chin. When these proportions are respected, the filler suits the character of your face and does not look “done”.

Not Just for Volume

  • Thin lips, or lips that have thinned with age
  • A blurred lip border
  • Imbalance or asymmetry between the upper and lower lip
  • Downturned mouth corners
  • Fine vertical lines above the lip

When It Should Be Postponed

Pregnancy and breastfeeding, an active cold sore or infection on the lip, dental treatment planned in the near future, and uncontrolled immune system disorders require postponing the treatment.

Aftercare

  • There may be noticeable swelling for the first 1–2 days; cold compresses help.
  • Hot drinks, saunas and intense exercise are avoided for 24–48 hours.
  • Preventive treatment may be recommended for those with a history of cold sores.

Step by Step

1

Expectations

Lip examples you like and your facial proportions are assessed together.

2

Numbing

A numbing cream is applied to the lips.

3

Application

Filler is added gradually to the contour and body of the lips.

4

Settling

The lips soften and take their final shape within 10–14 days.

A Surgeon’s View

If you want more volume, planning a second session a few weeks later gives a much more natural result than increasing the amount in a single session.
