What Does the Forehead Muscle Actually Do?

The forehead muscle is the only muscle that raises the eyebrows. Some people unconsciously use this muscle all day to compensate for heaviness in their eyelids. In these people, relaxing the forehead muscle too much can cause the brows to drop and the eyes to feel heavy. That is why a brow and eyelid assessment should never be skipped before treatment.

Differences Between Women and Men

In women, keeping the outer tail of the brow slightly lifted gives an elegant look, so the injection points are chosen accordingly. In men, a flat brow line is targeted. Men’s stronger forehead muscles usually require a slightly higher dose.

Possible Unwanted Effects

  • Outer brow lifted too high: Easily corrected with a small additional dose at the two-week check.
  • Mild drooping of the brow or eyelid: Rare and temporary.
  • Small bumps and redness: Disappear within minutes.

Step by Step

1

Assessment

Brow position, forehead width and muscle strength are assessed.

2

Marking

You are asked to raise your eyebrows to identify the most active areas.

3

Application

Small doses are given at the determined points.

4

Follow-up

The result is evaluated in the second week.

A Surgeon’s View

For deep forehead lines, botox may not erase the line completely. In this case, supporting it with treatments that improve skin quality gives a better result.
