In Brief

  • Volume can be increased with silicone implants or with the patient’s own fat.
  • The implant’s base width, profile and placement plan matter as much as its size.
  • Approved implants with long-term data should be preferred.

Choosing Proportion, Not Size

The most frequently asked question in consultations is “How many cc should it be?”. Yet the right starting point is not a number but a measurement. The width of your chest, the thickness of your existing breast tissue and the elasticity of your skin determine the most natural volume your body can carry. The same volume can look too large on someone with narrow shoulders and too small on someone with broad shoulders.

Implant or Your Own Fat?

Augmentation with implants provides a predictable and noticeable increase in volume. Implants come in round or teardrop shapes with different surface textures; the choice is made according to your expectations and tissue structure.

Fat transfer involves processing fat taken from another area of the body and transferring it to the breasts. It provides a more modest increase (about half to one cup size), contains no foreign material and offers slimming in another area at the same time. Part of the transferred fat may be absorbed by the body in the first months.

Where Is the Implant Placed?

  • Under the breast tissue: Can be preferred in people with sufficient tissue thickness.
  • Under the chest muscle: Reduces the palpability of implant edges in slim people.
  • Partially under the muscle (dual plane): A balanced option that provides muscle coverage in the upper part and a natural slope in the lower part.

The incision is usually placed in the breast crease; this placement makes the scar easy to hide under a bra or bikini.

Knowing the Risks

Hardening around the implant (capsular contracture), infection, bleeding, changes in nipple sensation and asymmetry are known risks. Meticulous surgical technique, appropriate implant selection and regular follow-up significantly reduce these risks.

Step by Step

1

Measurement and sizing

Breast measurements are taken and different volumes are evaluated with a sizing bra.

2

Day of surgery

The procedure takes about an hour under general anesthesia.

3

First week

The feeling of tightness decreases and daily tasks become easier.

4

Months 3 – 6

The implants settle and the breasts take on their natural shape.

A Surgeon’s View

Implants do not have a fixed expiry date; however, it cannot be guaranteed that they will never need replacing. Annual check-ups and ultrasound follow-up when needed are the best way to detect a possible problem early.

Frequently Asked Questions

Walking begins in the first days. Cardio can be done after 3–4 weeks, and exercises that strain the chest and arm muscles after 6 weeks.

Because the implant is placed beneath the mammary gland, most women can breastfeed after surgery.

No. Cabin pressure does not damage implants.

Yes. It is enough to mention that you have implants before the scan; it is performed safely with special positioning.

Breasts with implants are also affected by aging, pregnancy and weight changes. A supportive bra and a stable weight help preserve the result.
